The ICC Champions Trophy is an ODI format tournament which had been organized by the International Cricket Council(ICC) in the year 1998. It was also known as the ICC Knockout Tournament but they changed it to ICC Champions Trophy in the year 2002. The Champions Trophy was played after every 2 years till 2006 which now changed to 4 years. The ICC Champion Trophy tournament main motive was to raise funds for the benefits of non-test playing nation. The first tournament, therefore, was held in the year Bangladesh & Kenya which went to be a massive succession so now the Champion Trophy is held in the big nation like India & England to generate revenue for the development of ICC. It is also known as mini- World Cup as almost all test playing nation compete with each other in this tournament.
The first Champion Trophy was won by South Africa in the year 1998 where they defeated West Indies by 4 wickets at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka.
The winner of previous ICC Champions Trophy Winner was Pakistan who defeated India by a huge margin of 180 runs at The Oval, London.
The tournament was played as a Knock-out till the year 2000 which now changed into round-robin format & Knockout in the semi-final with 1 final at the end.
Australia have won the ICC Champions Trophy twice.
India also won it twice while one of the title was shared along with Sri Lanka in the year 2002.
West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan has won the ICC Champion Trophy only once.
Chris Gayle has the record for Most tournament runs which was 791 in the year 2002.
Kyle Mills(New Zealand) holds the records for Most tournament wickets of 28.
